Carpe Diem Coastal Nature Estate

Architecture Co-op developed the project vision, undertook detailed site mapping and co-ordination of a wide spectrum (change) of biophysical, social and economic assessments by specialist consultants. The proposal is for 120 lightweight "tree houses" which integrate with the environment and are threaded between vegetation. Here again we have used the principle of "touch the earth lightly" to minimise impact in a sensitive coastal location. The project includes a full range of sustainable services, local and non-toxic materials. The development also includes a proposal for an environmental education centre, managed coastal nature reserve and a range of community development initiatives. The project went through a complex Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA) and has been placed on hold.
