Elemental House

Perched on a dune overlooking the ocean to the South and the jagged peaks to the North this artist's retreat lies poised in the dramatic landscape. The rugged marine environment, seasonal winds and storms make this a truly dramatic location. The simple linear form of the low slung round-ridged building follows the line of the dune and seeks to minimise impact on the ecosystem and sense of place. The North orientation allows for seasonal use and control of sunlight. The intention is to capture light, views and connect with the elemental landscape.
