Salmonsdam Nature Reserve
Location: Overstrand, Western Cape, , South Africa
An existing CapeNature Conservation camp site lost in the Cape mountains close to Stanford, a rural town around 90 minutes from Cape Town. The site and cottages have been re-planned using sustainable low energy lightweight methods. The camp redevelopment includes 20 camp sites, ablution facilities and 4 cottages. The whole camp will be off-grid and supplied with pristine mountain water. Impacts of the development are to be minimised, including waste water treatment by use of composting toilets and grey water treatment using mulch basins. A sizable landscape restoration, removal of alien vegetation and landscaping of the site is planned. Due to commence on site in 2014 this project will be a landscaped natural rustic mountain retreat.
